[Ancientartifacts] Rumours of another tomb found in the Valley of the Kings

  Google It!

Jane Akshar mentions rumours of another tomb find near KV-8 (Merenptah) on her blog and I received an email from Lug Buergin last night pointing me to this story [Sensational Discovery in the Egyptian Valley of the Kings!*, Luc Buergin, Legendary Times, March 11, 2008] (Jane has updated her blog post since I first looked to include this story)

Also Bernhard Grundl mentions it here on the Glyphdoctors forum here**.

So if this new find is over by KV-8 then it is not the radar anomaly reported by Nicholas Reeves' Amarna Royal Tombs Project here (31 July 2006) as this appears to be in a different place.

Check out the maps on the Theban Mapping Project website for comparison.

And we have this confusing news item from the Egyptian State Information Service detailing a new SCA excavation team, headed by Zahi Hawass, that is going to find new tombs in the valley of the Kings.

Culture Minister Farouk Hosni named the first antiquities excavation team under Dr. Zahi Hawass Secretary General of the Antiquities Supreme Council to operate in Valley of the Kings in Luxor to unearth a number of tombs of kings and queens including Ramesses the [Eighth] and Thutmose the Second.

Dr. Hawass said the unearthing of those tombs would be regarded as the most important discovery since that of Tutankhamen tomb, especially as the excavation operations in the western bank was monopolized by foreign missions.

The Kings Valley included 63 royal tombs unearthed by foreign archaeological missions, Hawass added.

The first excavation team was formed, Egyptian State Information Service, Egypt, March 25, 2008.

So, they found a "doorway" or "stepped entrance" last November and kept it quiet (this is standard practice as official announcement is always through the SCA and they'd want to know exactly what they were dealing with first. This happened with KV63 when it was discovered.) And now they announce that they have formed an excavation team to find the missing tombs of two New Kingdom pharaohs. I expect there will be an official announcement soon of this new team discovering something.

Nefertiti's Tomb Found? Sensational Discovery in the Egyptian Valley of the Kings!

BASEL, Switzerland, March 11, 2008.

Nefertiti's Tomb found? Sensational discovery in the Egyptian Valley of the Kings! Once again, a new tomb was discovered underneath the desert sands, as reported by the German-language MYSTERIES Magazine in its next newsstand issue.

So far, the Egyptian Department of the Antiquities has kept silent about the exact location of this discovery. As MYSTERIES has now revealed exclusively on its webpage, the tomb, which was discovered in November 2007, is allegedly located in very close vicinity of King Meren-Ptah (KV 8). Could it be the last resting space of Ramesses VIII? Hardly, because the discovery appears to be a "stepped entrance" which points to a significant Amarna Ruler Tomb from the 18th Dynasty - possibly even to the legendary and elusive last resting place of Pharaoh Akhenaten or his wife Nefertiti!

After the discovery of King Tut's tomb in 1922 and the Tomb Depository KV 63 in 2006, this is only the third significant discovery in the Valley of the Kings in the last 85 years. It can be expected that Zahi Hawass will hold an international press conference soon informing the public about this sensational discovery, especially since he also made another "significant discovery" with the famous tomb of Pharaoh Sethos I.

Dear Members,

actually  some rumours  are going around, whispering of a discovery, made still in

November 2007, but  kept secret till today by the (SCA?)-officials.

According to these rumours, a  step-by-step stairway was discovered very near

to  Merenptha's tomb (KV8), may be nearbye the KV8-entrance aerea. this location,

and the Amarna-style stairway, is of special interest, cause directly on the other

       side You will find the enigmatic KV55 "Amarna"-tomb ! ( Akhenaten/Tiye/Smenkhare/.?.)

that's why somebody here suggest that the new tomb could rely to tke Amarna period,

thus belonging to High Royals like Akhenaten, Nefertiti, Kiya,.., and so on !?

Ok, so far the Rumours !  Did anybody "hear" or notice  something more in this context ???

Best regards as always: Bernie
