[Ancientartifacts] Snake significance...

I have a number of bracelets, both Roman and Greek, with snake head terminals. Some are
spiral bracelets and some are the standard single turn. I have been searching and reading
like mad to try to find an explanation of the significance of this type of adornment and I
haven't had much luck. Certainly nothing consistent or authoritative.

I am hoping some of the more learned members of this group might be able to explain
just what the significance of this particular type of adornment and why it seems to cross
cultures. Was it just the case of the Romans absorbing aspects of the cultures they
encountered along the way, or does it go further than that? I would really like to know the
origins of this.

Another thing that fascinates me is the multi-spiral rings, armlets and bracelets. I am
curious as to why this spiral was so popular across so many cultures and many epochs.
Was it simply a status symbol, or is there more to it than that? Again, if I could beg the
help of the more scholarly types on this group I would be very grateful.

Any suggestions of reference to articles or literature that could shine a light on these
areas would be gratefully accepted.

Thanks very much in advance,

Mark Smith
