years ago. I'm sure I could have avoided being duped by the numerous
fake dealers out there.
It would be nice if it were totally easy to print out a "good dealer"
and "bad dealer" list. I have downloaded a number of bad dealer
lists but have yet to locate a good dealer list.
I am a small potato collector. My budget is extremely limited and my
interest area is extremely limited.
At the same time, I would not hesitate to be willing to share the
items I have purchased and pass on the evaluations to others so they
could avoid making the same mistakes I have. I know I have dealt
with at least 5 dealers on the "bad" lists. I am unsure of the
status of a few others I have dealt with.
Also I would be willing to pay for authentication or even
contributing to a fund to evaluate and protect legitimate ownership
claims of others.
Is there some web site where all of this could play out? It seems a
little mixed and disorganized on this location at Yahoo. I'm still
trying to figure out the good guys and the bad guys. I dealt with
used and rare books and paper items for about 30 years so I'm pretty
good in that area but I'm not good at clay, stone, bronze, etc.. I
would be happy to share what limited expertise I have and I am not
looking for any financial gain. I just have a strong belief that
individuals should be able to own artifacts of the past especially in
their own cultural area and I would like there to be a safe place for
this to occur without having to totally rely on the giant auction
houses.
I look forward to continued discussion and debate on this issue.
Sincerely,
Paul Knieser
