Dear Jeff,

I am sorry being late to respond, but I would like to Point that the Redsandstone Statue is not as Described.

It is a beautiful piece of sculpture like other Contemporary sculptures, but doesnt belong to 13th Century A.D or nor from Khajuraho.

The statue at first look shows it to be contemporary and made recently by artist from Mapasrm.I have attached pics of similar statue from Khajuraho belonging to the 11th Century, from catalogue of Archaeological Survey of India. You could visibly notice the Patina of the statue, the difference is quite evident.

Secondly looking at the statue listed by Tanaya, just watch closely at the portion behind the head attached to the plague, you could very well notice the joints visible.

Also the Grains are dissimilar to the grains of the Khajuraho statues. He has not even mentioned to which part does it belong to.

Does the Statue belong to the Western Complex, Eastern Complex or Southern Complex of khajuraho Temples.

He has mentioned that this were made in the Brahmanic Style, oooooops, where was the Brahmanic style in that period. The Chalukyas were Rajputs, and there is no common style in the Sculpture of the Temple complex.Sculptures of Vaishavism, Shaivism and Jainism co exist in the Temples irrelative of which Temple they belong to.Where is the Brahmanic Art and What is the Brahmanic Art, I would like to know about it.

The production of Northern Indian art in the medieval period (9th-14th centuries) was rich and varied. An extraordinarily forceful and exquisite Brahmanic art blossomed in the great northern provinces - for instance in Rajasthan, or in Western Madhya Pradesh at Khajuraho-which witnessed the emergence of distinct architectural and sculptural styles. In most of these regions, the often-grandiose architecture was always lavishly decorated.

It should be noted that the sculpture of Khajuraho are not Rajasthani sculptures, they were the Sculptures of  Central Indian,Maniyagadh.

Such statues are made in contemporary India like this one and I could offer you in US$500 for a similar piece of statue from Redsandstone.

Regards,

Nirav

Hi Jeff,

It is really difficult to tell from a photo when you are dealing with stone.

I will forward this to a friend who deals in ancient Indian sculpture.

But, I have seen some great fakes lately, and remember if it seems too
good to be true, etc.
