City);
I think for once, maybe it's high time that a committee be put
together to insure that this list is moderated (as per, in part at
least, to your opinion here about the current job being done here).
I'm sorry to say it, but as nice a guy as Tim is, he's shown that
once again, maybe he's not capable of handling the responsibilities
presented here as a moderator.
Then again, if we did that, we wouldn't have our daily dose of
internet soaps to chat about, so who am I to suggest such things...
I strongly feel that this kind of banter, flaming and out right abuse
has carried on waaaaay too long on THE list supposedly for
antiquities. THE list has, for all intensive purposes, become little
more than a daily smut list of who can piss on whom.
Very boring and not why I am here - I get Univision with my satelitte
service if I want to tune into bad dramas...
As for Dr. Barford or his rather flippant supporter's comments, I
reserve the right to respectfully disagree with them very strongly,
but I do think that their presence is very useful, as it provides
collectors and dealers with a lot of insight into what problems the
larger international community has to overcome in order to establish
true collaboration.
The problem is that this is a power contest in many respects and it's
been going on now for so long. I doubt anything productive will ever
come about at this point, unfortunately.
Telling people to "fuck off" or dismissing their opinion though isn't
going to get the dialogue very far and ultimately, just polarizes
people more (trust me, as many of you know, I've been down this road
before... I speak from experience.) As much as it surely feels good,
it's counter productive and not welcomed.
Sincerely,
Phil Jones, Antiquarian
