While I certainly agree that there are several excellent dealers on
Trocadero (I have seen several mentioned such as Axel and someone
that has not been mentioned- Ben Wallis of Wallis Galleries) I have
seen a high precentage of fakes show up on Trocadero and emails go
unanswered.
The "difference" you cite between eBay and Trocadero is one based on
venue. eBay is basically an auction site and telephone numbers are
only provided at the whim of the seller in their About Me page or in
the text of their auction. But every seller stands on their own
merit and it is difficult for the new, inexperienced collector or
casual buyer to vet the sellers.
The biggest difference of all is that Tracadero lends credibility to
those sellers that are not as concerned about selling fakes or that
do not have the knowledge to tell the difference. This credibility
instils confidence in a buyer. Whereas on eBay someone with have a
brain may question an items authenticity, a specialty "mall" like
atmosphere may disarm the inexperienced customer because of the
preceived legitimacy.
One of the main reasons why customers buy from VCoins is because they
can trust the dealers. Bill Puetz has zero tolerance for
inappropriate behavior and as a dealer I would be kicked off of
VCoins faster than I can hit the send button on this message if I
were to knowingly sell a fake, defraud a customer or not honor the
VCoins dealer code of ethics.
Best,
Alfred
