Re: [Ancientartifacts] Are you reading this Tim?? Answer to Bob

Bob,

As long as the rest of your posts are similar to this, I see no reason not to welcome you into the group.  Now on to a few points:

I don't think moderation does much good though, because it tends to kill discussion when the subjects get a little heated.

I enjoy a good debate, even a heated debate, but see no reason to resort to name calling and behaving like a 3 year old.

The fact is when someone is called a liar, or a cheat or worse, they ought to be able to retort in any manner they see fit.

I don't agree.  If someone calls someone a cheat or a liar, they better have facts to back it up.  If there are examples to back up that statement, it's a little difficult for the seller to get into a tizzy, and even if they do, there are other ways to respond other than childish name calling, such as citing references.

>>Fighting and drama are not what this group is supposed to be for.

De facto, at this time, this is what it is about

Unfortunately, you are correct in this point, but for they majority of the approx. 3 yrs I've belonged to this group that has NOT been what it's about.  It's a shame to see it going down the toilet the way it has.  I've learned a lot from this group, and hope to continue to do so, but the way to get someone to see your point of view is not to spout insults, but have rational discussions, even if they are heated.

Indeed, I was checking out the beginning of the discussion of the proper behavior of a new Ancients Collector from a couple of weeks ago.  I think it is unrealistic to not expect there to be a number of very strong opinions on a subject like this.  And, frankly if I was on the losing side of such a fundamental discussion I would want my voice heard rather than having it silenced by some moderator.

I wouldn't want you moderated either if you were adding you points in a reasonable manner, instead of insulting someone who had a different opinion.  There are 1800+ people in this group, not everyone is going to always agree, in fact it would be a boring group if they did, but only a few who have resorted to such behavior.
